Before I received my 1080 Ti I saw various posts in several forums from folks complaining about Founders Edition or reference style blower coolers being too loud. Some owned the card and others just did not like the style which is fine.
To each their own but for those who may want to save a few hundred dollars over the AIB's or did not plan to go heavy on over clocking I wanted to show how "loud" it actually is.
I have used a few AIB's and while I had no issues with them I prefer to vent the hot air out of my case and save the money. I had thought I would want to put a water block on this and add it to my loop but now I do not think I will need to unless I try for a 2,000 MHz core clock.
You cannot go wrong with F.E. or AIB's but pick what fits your needs and enjoy, hopefully this will help some folks out!
Card clock speeds:
7970 @ 1125 core 1400 memory
1080 Ti @ full stock around 1860 core clock and 5000 memory
As of uploading this I have got the core running @ 1900 with the memory still at stock speeds, I have added 2% to the power limit but left the temp limit at 84 in Afterburner. At load the fans hit around 65 for a temperature of around 70c.
This is roughly the same temperature as my 7970 was hitting except at 775MHz additional clock speed at at least 3600MHz on the memory.
While the 1080 Ti fan may run a little faster during games it is still quieter or equal to my 7970 was at idle so it is perfect for my needs and I have room to push it further.
