This video looks at the formation of ECOWAS [The Economic Community of West African States] in 1975.
We analyzed in-depth the Charter and we found that the primary aims and objectives of the regional body were the economic integration of West Africa.
The Charter did not authorize or encourage any kind of political intervention in the internal affairs of member states.
Therefore, the threat by ECOWAS to use military means to re-instate deposed President Bazoum of Niger is unprecedented and unknown to the Charter.
We hold the view that ECOWAS should never lend a helping hand to foreign powers whose objective is to continue to exploit Africa under the guise of promoting 'democracy'.
