Reading 1: GAL 5:1-6
Resp: PS 119:41, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48
Gospel: Luke 11:37-41
Memorial of Saint Teresa of Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church
Lectionary: 468
Reading 1: GAL 5:1-6
Brothers and sisters: For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm, and do not be willing to be again held by the yoke of servitude.
Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if you have been circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you. For I again testify, about every man circumcising himself, that he is obligated to act according to the entire law. You are being emptied of Christ, you who are being justified by the law. You have fallen from grace. For in spirit, by faith, we await the hope of justice. For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision prevails over anything, but only faith which works through charity.
Responsorial Psalm: PS 119:41, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48
R. (41a) Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
Let your mercy also come upon me, O Lord: your salvation according to your word.
R. Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth: for in your words have I hoped exceedingly.
R. Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
So shall I always keep your law, forever and ever.
R. Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
And I walked at large: because I have sought after your commandments.
R. Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
I meditated also on your commandments, which I loved.
R. Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
And I lifted up my hands to your commandments, which I loved: and I was exercised in your justifications.
R. Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
Alleluia: HEB 4:12
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
The word of God is living and effective, able to
discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel: Luke 11:37-41
After Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee asked him to eat with him. And going inside, he sat down to eat. But the Pharisee began to say, thinking within himself: “Why might it be that he has not washed before eating?” And the Lord said to him: “You Pharisees today clean what is outside the cup and the plate, but what is inside of you is full of plunder and iniquity. Fools! Did not he who made what is outside, indeed also make what is inside? Yet truly, give what is above as alms, and behold, all things are clean for you.
