(15 Oct 2021) German Chancellor Angela Merkel made an official visit to Belgium on Friday in what was one of her final trips before she leaves her position.
Merkel received a military welcome alongside Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo at the Egmont Palace in the centre of Brussels, before holding talks with the Belgian leader and delegates.
The German Chancellor also visited Belgian King Philippe at the Palace of Laeken, where she was presented with the Grand Ribbon of the Order of Leopold.
A farewell concert will also take place in honour of the departing Merkel.
Merkel, who has led Germany since 2005, announced in 2018 that she wouldn't seek a fifth term.
