While hosting many insightful parallel events at the 2023 Parliament of the World's Religions, Tzu Chi volunteers lightened things up with a fun eco-fashion show.

Featuring volunteer models of all ages, clothing featured insight into Tzu Chi uniforms and then wearables made with DA.AI Technology. The unique part about this innovative tech: a majority of the items showcased are made from recycled PET bottles. Host and Tzu Chi volunteer Annie Chow explains:

“Our volunteers collect these bottles and in our processes, we clean them, and then we compress them into large bales.”

Items, including durable plastic foldable beds (which can be re-folded into tables, seating, and even stowed away), also had some time in the spotlight. Annie explained how they are distributed to survivors in disaster relief settings where accommodations can be very meager. Attendee and Chaplain Manohara Ferretti remarked:

“The thing I found most amazing was the bed… I’ve seen a lot of disaster relief [settings] where people were sleeping on the floor. It’s so much more helpful to have the bed, the chairs, things to sit on.”
