The quarterback (top right) was nearby as a truck driver smashed into a 15ft-high pedestrian bridge over the Southfield Freeway in Detroit at around 6am today. State police confirmed that he was dead shortly after the accident - with transport officials saying that he was driving with the flatbed of his truck up. Wreckage (pictured) was left strewn over the freeway as traffic was backed up for miles behind the crash.
