As various active illegal trapping sites are presently being observed in Malta's countryside despite trapping being illegal at this time of year, BirdLife Malta is also receiving regular reports from members of the public who complain of facing trappers who aggressively ask them to leave public footpaths.
In one such case, BirdLife Malta’s youth group, Falko, on Sunday 19th March encountered a particularly aggressive trapper at Ta' Sanap Cliffs in Gozo. The group, whose members were leading a hike, were faced with a trapper who covered his face and threatened to hurl a stone at them after they stumbled upon an illegally active finch trapping site at this Natura 2000 site in Munxar.
This is the footage of this incident which was also sent to the police together with a report which was filed. (Footage by Iryna Lukashuk, editing by Nathaniel Attard)
