Back in 2014, I gave a talk about my Dominican heritage to a group of co-workers. I thought this was an appropriate time to share a clip of this talk. You know with everything going on in the US & recent actions by the current administration. Topics of diversity and immigration are now at the forefront of our national conversation.
Our differences as Americans have never been more pronounced. Our timelines are dominated by opposing opinions. Back and forth about the direct of our country. Sometimes I wonder how can we live in such different worlds when we live in the same country! In a time of intense resistance and division, we must get back to celebrating our diversity. Where we do we all share common ground?
I pride myself on my diverse network of friends, and the diversity within my own heritage. The different cultures that make up the American experience share more in common than we might realize. By sharing this post about my own experience as a Dominican American, I hope to begin talking more about what makes us similar.
Check out this clip from my talk and comment if you can relate!
