My goal was to climb Mt. Everest by both the South approach in Nepal and the North approach in Tibet. On my second attempt, at age 67, I reached the summit from the South approach on May 23, 2009, becoming the oldest American to reach the summit and return alive. After four attempts, at age 72, I reached the summit from the North approach on May 25, 2014. I broke my 2009 record and became the oldest person living outside of Asia to reach the summit. This video documents those two climbs.
I have posted two versions of the Mt. Everest South Approach and North Approach video. This version, titled "Mt. Everest South Approach and North Approach," includes just the climbs of Mt. Everest from those two approaches. The other version, titled "Mt. Everest South Approach and North Approach Long," is slightly longer because it includes the 35-mile trek to Base Camp on the South Approach.
