My name is Rosemary Sousa and I am an obstetrician gynecologist, and I work in this field because I love taking care of, uh, women and their families. So I went into my field of such and gynecology because I really like taking care of our patient population. I thought that I wanted to do this going into medical school. And then during clinicals, when I was on labor and delivery, taking care of patients, uh, women in labor, I fell in love with it. I fell in love with the energy. I fell in love with the wonderful nurses that take care of our patients. And I fell in love with, um, helping women to bring new life into this world and what that means to families. So coming to the gynecologist is not something that everyone looks forward to. Um, it's a very personal visit and a very personal relationship with your gynecologist.

Um, I think one of the most important things for patients to know is you really shouldn't be embarrassed to come and see me. I'm a mom of two, I've been there myself. I have three younger sisters, and we're really just happy that you came in for preventative care or to talk about whatever's going on. Uh, today. Um, patients always worry about having their legs shaved, a promise we never mind if you've shaved your legs and we don't care if your socks match. Probably, um, if I've rushed outta the house in the morning to get to work, my socks aren't matching either. So we never worry about that. I spent some of my childhood in Louisville. Um, I was here from about age three to 10, and then I moved back to North Carolina and I was there until I finished my undergrad. Um, I went to UNC Chapel Hill and took some time off from school, and then eventually went back to medical school in Cincinnati where I met my husband. And we finished our residencies at UK in Lexington, Kentucky, and then moved back here to work for Norton Healthcare. Well, um, I have two small kids, so it's, I hardly remember what fun means anymore. Um, but I do, I love my family. I love taking care of my girls, spending time with my husband. We really love being outdoors, so anytime that we can get outside is great, whether it's gardening, walking, walking, the dog, hiking, um, outdoors, that's usually my happy place.
