For Open Access Week 2020, Dr. Bert Van den Bogerd (Antwerp Research Group for Ocular Science, ARGOS) explains why Open Access to scientific publications is important.
"Our research is very translational. We really want to impact the lives of patients. For this research we are funded by national tax money. Ofcourse the people that are funding us need to have an easy opportunity to access our research. For example, ophthalmologists, who treat patients on a daily basis, need to know what’s happening in the state-of-the-art literature."
"I hope that Open Access publishing will become the standard in the future, because everybody will definitely benefit from it in the long term."
