Join us to celebrate Rosie the Riveter Day and the 95th birthday of real Rosie, Mae Krier!
We will hear from Mae Krier herself about her work, her indomitable Rosie spirit, and end the program with questions from the audience.*
Like many Rosie the Riveters across the United States during WWII, Mae Krier heard the call of duty at age 17 and worked for Boeing in Seattle. She was one of more than 6 million women to work on the US home front to support the military working overseas.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck a year ago, Mae once again showed that the 'We Can Do It!' spirit is still going strong, sewing masks with the iconic red and white polka dot fabric. She soon received more than 5,000 requests and garnered the attention of ABC, NPR, The Washington Post, CNN and many other news outlets.
Most recently, the Rosie the Riveter Congressional Gold Medal Act was signed into law, a mission that Mae has pursued for 40 years.
