The local political level plays a strategic important role in implementing Global Goals for Sustainable Development. The seminar provides a global set of knowledge and ideas on how to implement the 2030 Agenda that is useful to local actors in Sweden. The goals are related to cities daily work.
The local level – municipalities, county councils and regions across the world – are not only implementers of the Global Goals. They are also policy makers who will represent its citizens when carrying out political work and making political considerations within all their areas of responsibility to build sustainable societies for the future that contribute to the global development. The cities of the world are growing in importance and have large potential to contribute with solutions for a sustainable development. Swedish municipalities, cities and regions can play an important role from an international perspective. Swedish municipalities are today key actors in many sustainability issues and locally set goals are many times more ambitious than national goals. How will municipalities together with their citizens develop indicators that show that they are on the right path and that raise local force and commitment? What are challenges for locally elected leaders?
