This Anthem was adopted in 1911, by the Sultanate while it was still a British protectorate. The melody was a popular on the island before it became the national anthem. Zanzibar continues to used the anthem until the island group merged with Tanganyika in 1964 to form Tanzania. The composer of the anthem is Donald Francis Tovey (1875-1940)
