I’m putting my ball joints in my knuckle, and installing the knuckle on my Dana 44. It’s a little bit tricky to get the right “preload” on the ball joints, so I thought I would explain the process of how to install the ball joint in the Dana 44 with the correct preload.
1. Clean up knuckle
2. Press ball joints into knuckle
3. Slide the knuckle onto the axle
4. Thread on the lower locking nut and tighten down to 90 ft lbs
5. Thread the adjuster nut all the way into the upper ball joint
6. Using a luggage scale to measure pre load on knuckle
7. Thread the castle nut on the top ball joint
