(7 Jan 2022) An anti-narcotics force of Pakistan's Sindh provice destroyed several tonnes of drugs and illegal liquor worth more than 1.5 billion Pakistani rupees (8,469.79 US dollars) in Karachi on Friday.
The force burned more than 22 tonnes of drugs, including 264 kilograms (582 pounds) of heroin, and buried contraband chemicals, seized in 2021.
It also destroyed over 2,000 bottles of illegal liquor.
Muhammad Umer Khan, the President of the Professional Youth Foundation who organised the drugs burning event after being invited by the force, said different kinds of liquor, including beer, wine, and vodka with an international market value of more than 200,000 US dollars, were destroyed.
Officials said the force has started a programmed to create an awareness among students about the hazards of drugs use.
The Anti-Narcotics Force runs four hospitals for drug addicts, one each in Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, and Islamabad.
