Community-based adaptive sports programs are often asked to show measurable gains to funders (grants and private funding alike). Exercise testing of athletes can be a valuable tool to document both health and skill related components of fitness. This session will explore exercise testing best practices for community-based adaptive sports and recreation programs for both youth and adult populations. Differences in testing disability populations (physical, visual and intellectual) will be discussed. This session will present exercise testing batteries that can be performed with either equipment most programs have readily available or low-cost options. By the end of this session participants will be prepared to determine: why programs should exercise test, what exercise testing can be utilized for different adaptive sports/recreation, how to best perform the testing for athletes with different disabilities, and how to exercise test with minimal/low-cost equipment.
