Ti parli in seno amore
per l'innocente figlio,
ma ti favelli al core
l'offesa maestà.
E pria che fra ritorte
sia nel vicin periglio,
guidalo in braccia a morte.
Questa è per lui pietà.
English lyrics (Susannah Howe):—
Let love for our innocent child
speak to your breast,
but let the injury to our royal house
speak straight to your heart.
And before he is enslaved
by the danger that approaches,
guide him to death's embrace.
