With Chinese New Year just around the corner, this book is timely. The Lunar New Year is celebrated in many Asian countries such as Vietnam, Thailand and Korea, but this book is about the Chinese tradition. I love how publishers and film studios like Disney are at last allowing stories of traditional cultures to be told by members of those cultures. This story is about young Mulan's New Year celebrations and it's aptly written and illustrated by Chinese women who would have had such experiences as the girl in the story.
