The immune system has the uncanny ability to identify and hold on to infected cells, forming so-called cell doublets, which effectively trap pathogens in the immune cells’ hug. Since every microbe has a unique genetic footprint, Dr. Burel wants to develop an innovative and universal molecular diagnostic test for infectious diseases based on DNA analysis from these cell doublets.
