Key objectives:
1. Evidence how collaboration between Governments and private sector benefit climate change mitigation and adaptation.
2. Highlight the co-benefits of the implementation of NbS, using forest landscape restoration a case study.
3. Recognise the challenges of NbS and possible solutions in 2022 and beyond.
4. Discuss future opportunities using Nbs for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Programme:
12:00-12.05 Welcome and Introduction, Malin Lundberg Ingemarsson, Programme Officer SIWI
12.05 - 12:15 How integrating water into forest management and landscape contributes to climate change mitigation and adaptation. (Lan Wang Erlandsson, Stockholm Resilience Centre presents findings)
12:15-12:30: Case study IUCN Regional office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECARO): Nature-based Solutions as a response to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in the Western Balkans, the ADAPT initiative – Boris Erg, Director (IUCN ECARO). The speaker will mention in the introduction the ECCA30 initiative, along with the IUCN Global Standard for NbS and will elaborate on how large scale NbS can achieve biodiversity net gains, economic benefits and social well-being. Experience will be shared from Serbia where an FLR for DRR and CCA is piloted (ADAPT initiative).
12:30-12:45: Project example - Peru Reconstruction with Change. Executive Director of ARCC, Technical Assurance Director of UK Delivery Team, and Viceminister of Agriculture introduces the project; promote model of the international partnership/collaboration and highlight the benefits on natural infrastructure, including green infrastructure (re-naturalisation, reforestation, afforestation) and brown infrastructure (soil improvement, terraces, infiltration ditches, etc) and the need of transfer climate change capabilities to leave a legacy.
12:45: 1:00 pm Moderated Dialogue. SIWI Moderator (Torgny Holmgren, Director SIWI). Discussion with Lan Wang Erlandsson + UK Delivery Team, Peruvian’s Government + IUCN).
