The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is constructing the Missing Link Project on the Mumbai-Pune highway, specifically at Lonavala Ghat. This project has a length of 13.3 KM and features an 8-lane access control. The objective of this project is to bypass the Khandala Valley, connecting before the Khandala's Khopoli Toll Plaza.
The Missing Link Project involves the construction of viaducts, tunnels, and bridges. Currently, the project has a completion rate of 80-90%, having commenced in June 2017, with an anticipated completion date set for January 2025.
After completion, the Missing Link will serve as a crucial solution for commuters, offering an alternative route that avoids the Khandala traffic and the risk of landslides. Furthermore, this strategic bypass is expected to reduce travel time by 20-25 minutes, contributing to improved efficiency in transportation. Additionally, the project is designed to safeguard the ecologically sensitive Khandala Valley.
