(5 Jan 2016) Dozens of Shiite Muslims took part in a rally in Indian-administered Kashmir on Tuesday to protest against Saudi Arabia's execution of prominent opposition Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
The protesters carried torches, candles and posters of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr and chanted slogans against Saudi Arabia as they marched through the streets of Srinagar.
Al-Nimr, a central figure in the Arab Spring-inspired protests by Saudi Arabia's Shiite minority, was executed after being convicted of sedition and of other crimes, though he long denied advocating violence.
News of his execution has sparked Shiite protests in many countries.
Authorities have imposed a curfew in some parts of Srinagar to prevent violent protests by Shiite Muslims.
