In Tibet, China's autonomous region, Mount Kailash (6714m.) is perhaps the world's most sacred peak. Known as Kang Rimpoche by Tibetans, it is a place of worship for Bonpo, Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. According to Hindu belief, it is the dwelling place of God Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Buddhist belief that it is the abode of Buddha, Jain belief that it is the place where their first saint attained liberation, and Bon-Po belief that it is a seat of salvation for the nation. Today, travelers and pilgrims from around the world visit Tibet. Tibet is primarily known for Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake as well as its spectacular Himalayan peaks and diverse wildlife. Those who circumnavigate holy Mount Kailash believe they gain salvation from birth cycle by getting rid of their sins and wrongdoings. It takes approximately 53 km to travel around Mount Kailash.

One of the highest wetlands on earth, Manasarovar Lake is located beside Mount Kailash. Buddhists believe Lord Buddha meditated at Manasarovar Lake to achieve enlightenment, referred to as Mapam Yumtso by Tibetans. One is believed to be cleansed from all worldly sins by dipping in this lake, according to Hindu belief. Rakshas Tal, also known as the Lake of Demons, is located nearby Manasarovar Lake. It is also an important site for travelers to visit the Lake of Demon.
