Did you know that the Netherlands offers a unique "welcome bonus" for highly skilled migrants? This bonus, called the "30-20-10% tax ruling", allows you to make part of your salary tax-free for the first five years. Here's how it works:
- First 20 months: 30% of your salary is tax-free.
- Months 21-40: The tax-free portion reduces to 20%.
- Months 41-60: It further reduces to 10%.
- After five years: You pay taxes just like a local resident.
To give you an example, if you earn a gross salary of €65,000, with the 30% ruling, your net salary would be approximately €55,036. Without the ruling, it would be around €45,568. That's nearly €1,000 extra in your pocket every month – quite a sweet bonus! (And it's no wonder the girl in the video is freaking out realizing how much less she's getting! 😱)
To qualify, you need to be a highly skilled professional with a salary of at least €56,200 in 2024. Also, the "border rule" applies, meaning you must have lived more than 150 kilometers from the Dutch border for at least 16 of the 24 months before starting your job – so sorry Belgium, Luxembourg, and even parts of Germany, France, or the UK. 🚫🗺️
