On 11 March 2021, the Black Barristers' Network (BBN) hosted an event with the Supreme Court where viewers had the chance to find out more about the role of Judicial Assistants and how to apply. Chaired by Olamide Ogunrinade from BBN, the webinar included an overview of the role from Chris Maile, Head of HR at the Supreme Court, and the experiences of three Judicial Assistants (Oliver Jackson, Gretel Scott and Alessandro Forzani) on working with the Supreme Court Justices, followed by a Q&A.
Applications are invited for new Judicial Assistants, assisting the Justices of the Supreme Court (who also sit in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council) by carrying out research in connection with appeals and summarising applications for permission to appeal. The 2021 recruitment round for Judicial Assistants closes on 31 March 2021.
Candidates must be qualified in one of the UK jurisdictions as solicitors, barristers or advocates at the time of submitting their application. In addition, they must also have completed a training contract or pupillage by 1 October 2021. Candidates will normally be intending to pursue a career in advocacy or have returned to university to carry out postgraduate research with a view to returning to a career in advocacy.
Fixed term appointments: 13 September 2021–29 July 2022
Application forms should be submitted by midnight on Wednesday 31 March 2021.
Interviews are likely to take place in the week commencing 17 May 2021.
Salary: £37,230 per annum.
