I’ve said it hundreds of times but its worth repeating. 80% of everything we do at AHP involves basic foundational movements with 90 Degree Eccentric Isometrics (see yesterdays post for examples). However the key is mastering 90 deg eccentric isometrics first as this teaches the lifter to master their body mechanics & muscle function thereby opening the doors to perform any & all variations even the most advanced ones with perfect form. 90 Deg EI’s also maximize muscle growth, strength, & athletic performance. They also help heal injuries & pain that were “untreatable”. God gets all the glory!!
Now, sometimes I like to experiment & have a little fun using the gym as my personal playground such as with safety squat bar squat combos as I show here with pinch grip version. These exercises obviously are not necessary & should never replace foundational movements, just periodically implemented as unique & foreign stimuli. However, all of these reinforce insane levels of full body tension, motor control, spinal rigidity, & core bracing.
They also require very high levels of mental engagement & cognition. That means we have increased neuroplasticity as a result of new or novel exercises. The body essentially senses these new or unique physical stimuli as foreign experiences & creates new neural pathways as a way to adapt. Not only do we improve our cognitive reserve/health/resistance to cognitive & neurological damage but we also have improved mastery of movement patterns & skill acquisition.
