At a news conference in Victoria, John Horgan, the premier of British Columbia, announces that the province’s K–12 schools will reopen for in-class instruction on June 1, 2020. He is joined by Rob Fleming, B.C.’s education minister, Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, and Katrina Chen, the minister of state for child care. B.C. schools have been shuttered since March 17, 2020, due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. Attendance will be optional when classes resume; students who do attend will do so on a part-time basis. (May 15, 2020)
