Linnaeus and Woese are both responsible for the current system of classification that we use today. Make the most of this video with my Studyalong Workbook from www.emmatheteachie.co.uk

In this video, we’ll learn the hierarchy of classification and come up with a mnemonic for it to help with your revision.
We’ll also cover what binomial classification is and how you work it out (you’ll be given all of the information needed, normally the entire hierarchy).
In this new GCSE Biology 9-1 and Combined Science specification, you also learn about Carl Woese’s work - he and his team identified a new level of classification called domain.
This was thanks to improvements in both microscopes and biochemistry.
Finally we’ll look at the three domains:
- ARCHAEA
- BACTERIA
- EUKARYOTA
COMMENT BELOW: What mnemonic do you use to help you remember the classification hierarchy?
