Many students and physical therapy students want to know if their GPA (grade point average) actually matters once they're in PT school. Here's the answer: While you need to keep your GPA above the minimum threshold set in place by your institution, it's important NOT to lose sight of the big picture.
In PT school, your grades and GPA serve as guideposts or trail markers to let you know that you're essentially on a good path with your academic studies, however, they're not the be-all-end-all when it comes to determining how prolific or successful of a physical therapist you'll really be.
You ultimately need to ask yourself why you believe it's worth it to work hard while in your PT program while retaining the big, overall picture that grades are just one of many indicators as to your likelihood for future success.
This is not to say that GPA and grades aren't important, rather that your expectations of what they will do for you needs to be realistic. Just because you graduate with a 4.0 doesn't guarantee that you'll have a successful career within the clinic. What guarantees your success is your willingness to work hard while knowing what you hope to achieve when it comes to carving out a successful career as a physical therapist.
