The UN High-level Seminar on Gender and Inclusive Mediation Strategies took place in Helsinki 5 - 7 November 2019. CMI, Norwegian research institute PRIO and the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs have been organizing these seminars for 6 years, this year being the 10th time. Altogether more than 200 senior mediators have attended the seminars that have been funded by the Finnish and Norwegian Foreign Ministries.

This year the group of 23 senior mediation actors convened in Helsinki to discuss the role of gender in peacemaking policies and inclusive mediation practices. During the three days, the experts also reflected on the current global challenges, increasing complexity of conflicts and the future of mediation. UN Special Representative to African Union, Hanna Tetteh, assesses these challenges.
