A few customers had mentioned about a traffic warden who’s remit is to patrol #Trafford Council land, giving tickets out to vehicles on private property over the weekend! I managed to see her late in the afternoon and politely challenged her actions on behalf of the vehicle owners who are neighbours / customers of ours.
Credit where credit is due though… I actually don’t mind traffic wardens as long as they show some common sense, this lady actually listened to my point, checked with her supervisor who confirmed her error and removed 2 tickets. So fair play to her!
However...we’ve since discovered several cars were ticketed earlier in the day before i spoke to the traffic wardens, so this video was shared in the hope anyone given a ticket will see it and use it to challenge their PCN!
** Update ** This video has unexpectedly been seen by 1.5m people on tiktok and I responded to over 1600 comments before deactivating them. It’s now being recommended by YouTubes algorithm, so I’ve deactivated the comments on here too!
But here’s some FAQ’s and Answers:
Q: Why are they parked on the pavement in the first place?
A: A pavement is a part of a highway which shares its border with the road on which there is a “public right of way on foot”.
This private property is described as a carpark on building plans and has no public right of way! Therefore it’s not a pavement.
Q: How are wheel chair users or “mums” with buggies meant to pass without going onto the road?
A: Firstly… Why would a wheel chair user or parents with buggies be using a bit private land that leads from the brick wall of a building to a concrete pillar rather than the public pavement opposite?
Secondly… If the above have ended up on that section of private car parking land 1 of 2 things have happened. They’ve either crossed the road already (on a blind bend) or they’ve fell from the overpass above.
Q: Why did you feel the need to share this video?
A: The need is because several vehicle owners left the land throughout the day with a £60 PCN when they shouldn’t have! I can’t imagine the company the CEO works for has proactively voided the tickets, so therefore I wanted to share the video in the hope those vehicle owners would see it. Wouldn’t you want a heads up?
Q: Why did you call it a pavement?
A: Like the CEO in this video, I too can hold my hands up and say I was wrong! I was wrong to call it a pavement. By legal definition it isn’t a “pavement”.
Q: How would you like someone harassing and abusing you whilst doing your job.
A: It’s hardly harassment or abuse! Have you ever seen a more civilised conversation between a member of the public and a CEO!
I’ve held a front line uniformed public sector role so I would never abuse someone doing their job. Even if it was my car & knew it was an error, I would have stayed calm, accepted it and appealed it in court instead of getting into an argument.
Q: They still crossed the double yellow lines when you’re not allowed!
A: It’s probably time you read the Highway Code again! Can you imagine all the cars unable to enter or exit driveways or enter hospitals, schools or car parks that have double yellow lines passing the entrances if that was true! 😂
