Pope Francis has conferred sainthood on murdered Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero at a ceremony in the Vatican.
An advocate for peace during El Salvador's civil w ar, Romero was shot dead while celebrating mass in 1980.
Until recently, Roman Catholic leaders were accused of blocking his canonisation because of his perceived left-wing views.
