In this video we figure out how to get a genetic sample to send to Invitae to test for my Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Frontotemporal Dementia (ALS/FTD) risk. Since this is an autosomal dominant disease like Huntington's Disease (HD) the process of inheritance is the same. The most likely cause of familial ALS/FTD is a hexanucleotide repeat expansion disorder which again is similar to the trinucleotide repeat expansion disorder that causes HD.
