STORYLINE
Torrential rains caused mudslides which have killed at least 38 people in Guatemala, most of them in three separate disasters along the same stretch of highway.
On Saturday, a landslide on the Inter-American highway towards Mexico partially buried a bus, killing 12 people near the village of Tecpan.
Then officials said a slide around midday on Saturday trapped vehicles on the same highway, and some of the people who came to rescue them were themselves caught by a second slide, near the village of Nahuala.
Rescue workers have recovered 20 bodies and at least 60 people are missing.
On Sunday, rescue crews continued searching through mud and rocks to retrieve bodies from the crushed bus, and brought the wreck back on the road.
On Sunday, Vice President Rafael Espada visited the area, and expressed his concern.
"We are very worried seeing these tragedies which are the result of the severe weather changes affecting us. It is a high risk, we have to check the roads, secure the critical spots," said Espada.
