(2 Jul 1994) The Voice of Palestine, the first Palestinian radio station in the
self-rule areas, launched inaugural broadcasts on Saturday (2/7)
from the lowest town on earth. The Jericho-based station began
its transmissions with Arabic music and poetry. The radio got around reception problems by beaming its signal to a transmitter situated in a hilly region of the West Bank, near the town of Ramallah north of Jerusalem.
