(1 Jan 2015) Over two (m) million people celebrated the arrival of 2015 on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach as fireworks lit up the sky for nearly 20 minutes.
The massive firework display over the Atlantic Ocean left the crowd amazed even after one of the floating platforms caught on fire for 15 minutes at the end of the show.
No one was injured and firefighters were able to put out the flames.
"It was so, so, so beautiful, as always, I have come here many times and I recommend it to a lot of people because it is always so beautiful," said Roberta Cantinho, who was wearing white like the rest of the crowd.
According to Brazilian tradition, wearing white will bring purification and a peaceful new year.
Another tradition calls for partygoers to enter the sea up to their knees and jump seven waves shortly after the new year begins, for luck.
