Join us for a scenic journey along the metre gauge Montreux - Oberland bernois line, from the lakeside resort of Montreux to the country town of Zweisimmen.
We begin our journey at Lac Léman, also known as Lake Geneva, and explore the historic Château Chillon before boarding our smart blue train. The line winds its way up the hillside and we pause at Chamby to make a visit to the entrancing living railway museum with its numerous exhibits and line to Blonay.
We pass through the tunnel at Jor to emerge into the lush farming region around the valley of the river Hongrin, which joins the Sarine at Montbovon, terminus station of the GFM line. We have the chance to see a traditional cheese-maker at work and look at some of the picturesque villages along the way.
The famous international resort of Gstaad is popular with film stars and princes and we stroll around the peaceful streets of the town in summer, when one of the major tennis championships is taking place.
Journey's end is at Zweisimmen, where the MOB also operates a branch line to the health resort of Lenk, and we take a brief look at this route. For travellers wishing to continue their journey it is possible to make a connection with the BLS standard gauge line which runs from Zweisimmen to Interlaken.
