Testing – Power Distribution, Etc.
• Make sure to follow your testing document that was created during the testing preparation phase.
o This document should have detailed steps of everything that will be tested within the panel.
• Determine the equipment that will be needed for this testing
o A way to power the panel temporarily
o A multimeter is a good choice for testing power
o A multimeter is also good for checking continuity between points within the panel
o Depending on the test that will be performed, you might also need:
Torque screwdriver
Computer (Laptop)
Precession screwdriver
Extra wire
Etc.
• Begin testing power distribution
o Start with main incoming power and main breaker and work your way down stream
Main/Utility Power
• Any devices running on this power
AC Power distribution
• All devices running on this power
DC Power distribution
• All devices running on this power
o Make sure to check the voltage at each device.
o Also ensure that you are able to disconnect power by removing fuse, or shutting of breaker
Then check device to make sure power has been disconnected
o Verify circuit breaker and/or fuse sizing for each circuit
• Before moving on the other areas of the test, ensure that everything related to the power distribution correct, including:
o Labeling
o Hardware verification
o Hardware location
o Proper voltages
o Etc.
