Gender-based violence (GBV) constitutes a severe human rights violation. The devastating impact of ongoing international, regional, and local conflicts and wars reveal that, sexual violence and rape remain systematic weapons of war. At the same time, we witness an increasing militarization and a massive shift towards an international arms race. With all of these developments currently unfolding, Women7 call for a radical shift in foreign policy towards a Feminist Foreign Policy. Feminist Foreign Policy prioritizes peace, gender equality, intersectionality, and environmental integrity and it seeks to dismantle patriarchal, colonial, and racist power structures. This panel brings together different perspectives on how ending GBV in local and global contexts can feed into and allow for a meaningful implementation of such a Feminist Foreign Policy.
“Ending gender-based violence as a prerequisite for feminist foreign policy” is the title of the panel discussion moderated by Women7 Project Advisor Madita Standke-Erdmann. The panelists include:
• Anna Lührmann, Minister of State for Europe and Climate at the Federal Foreign Office
• Sanam Naraghi-Anderlini, Director of the Centre for Women, Peace, and Security
• Nahid Shahalimi, Founder & Managing Director of We The Women
