From the 12th century onwards, the Swedes' and Danes' raids involved the conversion of pagans to Christianity. The Swedes launched three legendary Crusades into Finland, and slowly consolidated the heathen land into a part of their Medieval kingdom, and the Catholic church. This animated documentary, narrated by Reidar Wasenius (youtube.com/reidarwasenius) explains these events in the usual trollish style.
