You might not expect to find a tea farm in Europe, but there is actually one off the coast of Portugal — in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The Azores islands have been synonymous with tea for over two centuries. The tropical climate and volcanic soil of these islands make for perfect growing conditions, giving this tea a sweet, perfectly balanced mineral flavor. We traveled to São Miguel, the biggest island in the Azores, to visit Gorreana, the oldest tea manufacturer on the island, whose history and production method date back 138 years.
