An inclined plane, also known as a ramp, is a flat surface tilted at an angle. It makes work easier by reducing the effort needed to move a load but increases the distance the load travels.
Inclined planes are often used for moving heavy loads over vertical distances, like loading trucks, wheelchair accessibility, or in multistory car parks.
Staircases work similarly to ramps, allowing movement to higher or lower positions more easily. By dividing the climb into steps, staircases make the process more manageable, found in various places like homes and office buildings.
A screw is another example of an inclined plane but in a special winding pattern around a cylindrical shaft. When turned, the screw digs into material like wood or metal, reducing the force needed to drive it in. Screws are commonly used in building furniture and structures, connecting materials strongly and stably.
