Hundreds of people on Tuesday visited the Vijay Stambh (war memorial) in Koregaon Bhima village in Pune district of Maharashtra to mark the 1818 victory of Peshwas over the British. Security has been heightened in the area to avoid last year's violence, in which one person was killed and many others were injured following clashes between castes. Over 8,500 cops and SRPF units have been deployed in the whole area. Around 350 CCTV cameras are placed for live monitoring of the event. Internet services have been suspended in Bhima Koregaon.
