An introduction to the font group commands in Word 2019.
This video walks through an introductory exercise that I use to evaluate my students' familiarity with Word during our first class meeting, which I previously supervised in person but now conduct remotely.
Students must identify these 15 commands: Font, Font Size, Change Case, Clear All Formatting, Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Subscript, Superscript, Text Effects and Typography, Text Highlight Colour, Font Colour
If you would like to follow along, the specific steps in the exercise are:
1. Open a new blank Word document
2. Type the names of the commands in the Font Group in a list so that each one is one a separate line
3. Apply bold, italic, underline and strikethrough to the names of each of these items in your list
4. Type the number 1 after subscript and the number 2 after superscript; apply the respective format to each of these numbers
5. Choose one of the text effects to apply to the words "Text Effects and Typography"
6. Apply yellow to the words "Text Highlight Colour"
7. Select the words "Font Colour" and change the colour to any shade of blue
8. Select the word "Font" and change the font to Cambria
9. Select the words "Font Size" and change the font size to 14 pt
10. Select the words "Increase Font Size" and click the Increase Font Size command twice; select the words "Decrease Font Size" and click the Decrease Font Size command twice
11. Select the words "Change Case" and change to uppercase
12. Select the words "Clear All Formatting" and apply Bold and Italic, then click the drop-list arrow next to Underline and select a double underline
13. With the words "Clear All Formatting" still selected, click the Clear Formatting command to clear the formatting
