Tatarstan rolled out the red carpet for Russian President Boris
Yeltsin who took his election campaign to the republic on Sunday
(9/6).
The visit, which coincided with a traditional festival to mark the
end of the sowing season, was also marked by marches and singing,
with many people wearing traditional costume.
Yeltsin, wearing a Moslem skull cap, appealed to the crowd to
support reform.
