(6 Jan 2022) Families gathered at the Rimac church in Lima on Wednesday, waiting for a performance of the Three Kings' arrival to meet baby Jesus.
Members of the mounted police performed an honor guard around their colleagues, portraying the traditional "Arrival of the Three Kings."
Rosario Luna, who took her granddaughter to receive a small gift outside the church, said she wants to pass on her faith to future generations.
"For these, so difficult times we are living through, we should teach the little ones to have a lot of faith," Luna said.
The representation began in 1988, the decade during which there were clashes between the Peruvian government and the rebel group the Shining Path.
The violence claimed tens of thousands of lives in Peru and displaced at least 600,000 people.
Col. Percy Tenorio, 57, from the mounted police in El Potao and a founding member of the tradition, said he now vows for people to follow the social distancing restrictions to curve the spread of COVID-19.
