From 1987, most (but not all) of WVUE New Orleans' (then ABC, now Fox)' Sunday morning public affairs program "Neighborhood Newsmakers", usually hosted by WVUE's former weekend co-anchor Jim Bailey, but in this case hosted by the station's then-managing news editor Kirk Melancon.
This program features an interview with WVUE's then-weekend co-anchors Jim Bailey and Mary Lou McCall about their reports which focused on a miraculous series of visions of the Virgin Mary that appeared in the Yugoslavian city of Medjugorje.
As a result of those visions, people from all over the world flocked to the city to witness them first hand, and for the predominantly Catholic community of New Orleans, Bailey and McCall's series "Miracles at Medjugorje" struck a powerful chord.
The series, which later aired on WVUE as a half hour special in primetime, became one of the station's highest rated programs.
Both reporters left WVUE soon afterward and would soon recount their experiences at Medjugorje to religious groups and worldwide media.
McCall later hosted the long running WLAE (then a PBS affiliate) religious affairs series FOCUS with the late New Orleans Archbishop Philip Hannan.
Apologies for the low audio. I tried to enhance it as best as I could, but admittedly there's a lot of hiss in it, as there was in the original recording, which is joined in progress and features footage from McCall and Bailey's reports. All copyrights acknowledged.
