AWM
The Arctic Warfare Magnum (AWM) is a high-precision sniper rifle specifically designed for operability in Arctic temperatures. UK firm Accuracy International built many variants of the Arctic Warfare sniper rifle, including the AWM and the AW50.
The AWM’s unique feature is its Magnum cartridges, which are larger and more powerful than found on traditional rounds. The AWM exists in both .300 Winchester and the .338 Lapua variants held in a five-round detachable box magazine. The latter is designated as a super long-range sniper rifle and has a long effective firing range of 1,500m-1,700m.
For super-long range firing, the AWM Lapua can incorporate a detachable aperture-type iron sight and day and night thermal optics for low light conditions.
British Army Sniper Corporal of House Craig Harrison achieved the record for the longest sniper kill in November 2009, unleashing a critical shot from a range of 2,475m from an L115A3, the British Armed Forces’ designation for the AWM. This record would be beaten in 2017 by another sniper rifle on this list – the McMillan TAC-50.
Accuracy International AS50
The Accuracy International AS-50 was developed by the famous British company Accuracy International, from a request by the US SOCOM for a lightweight and rugged sniper rifle in .50 BMG. The AS-50 has a direct-impingement action. Its accuracy is 1.5 MOA, extremely impressive for a semi-automatic rifle of that caliber. Its effective range is about 1500 meters, allowing users to take down targets with high accuracy at long distances. The AS-50's gas operated action and muzzle brake give it a lower recoil than a bolt-action rifle like Accuracy International's AW-50. The AS-50 also features a rail for mounting optics, two side rails for other attachments, an adjustable bipod, and rear monopod for steadier aiming.
CheyTac Intervention M 200
The CheyTac Intervention is an American bolt action sniper rifle manufactured by CheyTac LLC. It is fed by a 7-round detachable single stack magazine. It fires .408 Chey Tac or .375 Chey Tac ammunition. CheyTac LLC states that the system is capable of delivering sub-MOA accuracy at ranges of up to 2,500 yards (2,300 m), one of the longest ranges of all modern-day sniper rifles. It is based on the EDM Arms Windrunner.
