We hear it all the time, why doesn't my coffee at home taste like the coffee my barista makes me?
Here are three factors that probably have the biggest role to play:
1️⃣ Your Coffee - If you're not using good coffee beans, it's going to be hard to brew good coffee to drink. If you have a local roaster or coffee shop, head over to them first and see what coffee they have on the shelf.
If you have questions, ask! If you don't have a local shop that you can visit, raise a hand in the comments and we can send you some online recommendations!
2️⃣ Your Grinder - If we had to pick one piece of equipment that will have the biggest impact on your coffee, it's 100% the grinder. Get yourself a good burr grinder.
Brands that we recommend for beginners are Baratza, Timemore, and Fellow. They all make great entry level grinders, both electric and manual.
If you have questions about what kind of grinder you should choose, scroll back a few posts and we posted a guide you can look at. Or, as always just drop us a comment or DM and we can point you in the right direction.
3️⃣ Your Water - Your coffee shop is probably using some kind of water filtration, and that is going to have an impact on how the coffee tastes. Coffee is 98% water, you know.
So while it might be hard to match their water exactly, you can use products like Third Wave Water, Global Customized Water, and Lotus Coffee Water to get you pretty close.
Brewing at home doesn't have to be too complicated! Make a few tweaks and you can make coffee just like your favorite shop for the days that you want to brew from home. If you have more questions, drop them in the comments!
